Honors Chemistry … November 6th – 10th

Hello, students!

Important note 2: Want retake E-1 or E-2? Please do the required remediation sheet (E-01-17 remh/E-02-13 empp/E-02-13 apt), check it with me, and sign up for a time to retake it (You may do that any time, one time per test this semester, whenever you are truly ready!)! Suggestion: do it before Thanksgiving Break.

Here is what we are doing in Honors Chemistry this week:

Monday, November 6th – Complete, check, and turn in the E-13 Practice Test with partner (E-13-17 pth). Get the E-13 Gas Laws odd Practice Problems stamped and checked (E-13-14 ssh), if not done on Friday. Homework: Have you completed the E-12 Charles’ Law Lab, if not, it MUST be ready to turn in by tomorrow (E-12-17 lsh KA). Study for the E-13 Test Tuesday (E-13-14 ssh/E-13 Note Sheet/E-13 MS/E-13-17 pth/CONVERSION FACTORS). Complete the E-15 Equal Volumes Prelab (E-15-14 lsh)(due no later than Wed).

Tuesday, November 7th – Have you turned in the E-12 Lab? Take the E-13 Test. Homework: Complete the E-15 Prelab (due no later than Wed). Read the E-14 Molar Mass Study Sheet (E-14-17 ssh).

Wednesday, November 8th – New Seats. E-14 Notes. Discuss E-15 Prelab ExercisesHomework: Complete the E-14 Practice Problems 1-4 “odd letters” (a, c, e …)(E-14-17 ssh/Periodic Table)(due next Mon).

Thursday, November 9th – Stamp the E-15 Prelab. Do the Lab. Get the Lab Data checked. Homework: Complete the E-14 Practice Problems 1-4 “odd letters” (a, c, e …)(due next Mon).

Friday, November 10th – NO SCHOOL. VETERAN’S DAY.

Regular Chemistry … October 31st – November 3rd

Hello, students!

Here is what we are doing in Regular Chemistry this week:

Monday, October 30th – Troubleshoot the E-9 Discovering Density Lab “Raw Data” and Calculations (E-09-15 ls). Then, complete and turn in the E-9 Analysis 4-5, the Conclusion, and the Mind Prober (E-09 DD Data Table KR). If time, begin the E-9 Density Prequiz Questions (E-09 pqqwpic)(due Wed). Homework: If you scored less than a C- on the E-7 Physical and Chemical Changes Test, you must retake E-7 on Thursday, but anyone may retake if they wish. Please do the E-7 PT2 to prepare for it (E-07-17 pt2r)(due Wed)!

Homework: Complete the E-12 Charles’ Law Lab (E-12-17 lsh KA)(due no later than next Mon).

Tuesday, October 31st – Check and turn in the 13-1to3 Review and Reinforcement Worksheets. Begin E-13 Gas Laws Notes (Conversions/Boyle’s Law/Charles’ Law/Gay Lussack’s Law) and take notes on E-13 Gas Laws Note Sheet (E-13-14 ssh/E-13 Note Sheet/CONVERSION FACTORS). Homework:  Complete the odds from the Conversions/Boyle’s Law/Charles’ Law/Gay Lussack’s Law Practice Problems sections (due Wed). Complete the E-12 Lab (due no later than next Mon).

Wednesday, November 1st – HALF DAY. Finish the E-13 Notes (Combined/Dalton’s Law) and take notes on E-13 Note Sheet. Homework:  Complete the odds from the Combined/Dalton’s Law Practice Problems sections (due Thurs). Complete the E-12 Lab (due no later than next Mon).

Thursday, November 2nd – Begin and turn in the E-13 Magic Square with partner (E-13 MS). Homework:  Complete the E-12 Lab (due no later than next Mon). Complete the E-15 Equal Volumes Prelab (E-15-14 lsh)(due next Tues).

Friday, November 3rd – Finish, check, and turn in the E-13 Magic Square with partner.  If done, stamp and check all Gas Laws Practice Problems.  Homework: Complete the E-12 Lab (due no later than next Mon). Need more practice with E-13 – do some of the even Practice Problems – the E-13 Test will be next Tuesday! Complete the E-15 Prelab (due next Tues).

Here is what we are doing in Regular Chemistry this week:

Monday, October 23rd – Happy Mole Day (https://ed.ted.com/lessons/daniel-dulek-how-big-is-a-mole-not-the-animal-the-other-one)! Review the Guidelines for Measuring (GUIDELINESFORMEASURING-15). Complete, get stamped, and check the Measuring Worksheet #2 (Measuring Worksheet #2). Collect the “Raw” data for the E-9 Discovering Density Lab and get checked. Homework: Complete the 1st Quarter Review for E-1 through 7 (except 2) (1st Q RS)(due Wed).

Tuesday, October 24th – Introduce E-2 Significant Figures (E-02-16 ssr). As a class, complete the calculations for E-9 and turn in one clean copy of the “Raw” data and Calculations per group for grading. Homework: Complete the 1st Quarter Review for E-1 through 7 (except 2) (due Wed).

Wednesday, October 25th – Stamp and check the 1st Quarter Review through E-7 (except 2). Homework: Review E-1 through 7 (except 2) and STUDY for the Midpoint Growth Assessment.

Thursday, October 26th – Take the Mid Point Growth Assessment over E-1 to 7 (except 2). 3:30 – 7 pm Parent Teacher Conferences.

Friday, October 27th – NO SCHOOL. 8: 30 am – Noon Parent Teacher Conferences.

Here is what we are doing in Honors Chemistry this week:

Monday, October 23rd – Happy Mole Day (https://ed.ted.com/lessons/daniel-dulek-how-big-is-a-mole-not-the-animal-the-other-one)! Discuss what is meant by a direct and by an inverse relationship. Obtain an E-10 Beverage Density calibration curve for 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20% sugar solutions for your group and fill in the masses and densities for the 5 % sugar solutions in the Data Table in your Workbook (E-10-14 lsh). Learn how to use a pipette. After visiting the practice station, obtain the masses and densities for each of the five beverages and fill in the Data Table in your Workbook (Make sure to record them in the correct box on your data table.). Once everyone is finished in the lab, learn how to use colored pencils and rulers to estimate the % sugar of each of the 5 beverages and write the % sugars in your Data Table in your Workbook. Homework: Complete the E-11 Boyle’s Law Prelab (GUIDELINESFORLABREPORT-08/E-11-14 lsh)(due Tues). Complete the 1st Quarter Review through E-10 (1st Q RS)(due Wed).

Tuesday, October 24th – Meet in B-327. Sit with partner(s) at a computer with syringe attached. Log into the computer and go to Google Classroom. Then, 1: Click on the three dots in the upper right hand corner of the screen and open the E-11 Boyle’s Law Data Studio document in new window from Google Classroom. 2: Download the Data Studio document. 3. Double click on the Data Studio document to open it. 4. Follow the E-11 Boyle’s Law Lab Sheet instructions (E-11-14 lsh)(Make sure to do three trials and record your results in your Science Notebook.). IF time, make an Google Sheets graph with your group using these instructions (E-11-17 gi KA), print it, and turn it in (ONE per group). If there is not time, it is individual homework (due no later than next Mon)Homework: Complete the 1st Quarter Review through E-10 (due Wed).

Wednesday, October 25th – Stamp the E-11 Prelabs. Stamp and check the 1st Quarter Review through E-10. Finish marking the 5 beverages on your E-10 calibration curve and writing the % sugars in the E-10 Data Table in your Workbook. Turn in the E-10 Calibration curve. Homework: Review E-1 through 10 and STUDY for the Midpoint Growth Assessment.

Thursday, October 26th – Take the Mid Point Growth Assessment over E-1to 10. Did you finish marking the 5 beverages on your E-10 calibration curve and writing the % sugars in the E-10 Data Table in your Workbook? Did you turn in the E-10 calibration curve? Complete and turn in the E-11 Conclusion and Mind Prober on the back of your group’s graph (If graph is not yet printed, do it on a separate sheet to staple together no later than next Mon). 3:30 – 7 pm Parent Teacher Conferences.

Friday, October 27th – NO SCHOOL. 8: 30 am – Noon Parent Teacher Conferences.
