Monday, September 17th – Period 1 – Watch video … Grit! https://www.ted.com/talks/angela_lee_duckworth_grit_the_power_of_passion_and_perseverance  . Finish and turn in the E-3 Lab Questions/Conclusion with partner (E-03-17 wksht/E-3 Conclusion). Period 2 – Interactive Army truck.

Tuesday, September 18th – Return E-3 Types of Observations Lab graphs and discuss graph expectations (GUIDELINESFORGRAPHING – 08/E-3 rubric KRfr). Check and turn in E-3 Lab Questions and Conclusion with partner. Try the E-3 Quizlet to see if you know your E-3 terms (Try the E-3 Quizlet to see if you know your E-3 terms (https://quizlet.com/311325514/e-3-terms-flash-cards/?scrlybrkr=a8119962)! 

Wednesday, September 19th – E-2 Significant Figures notes (Atlantic Pacific or Counting Rule/rounding)(E-02-16 ssr/E-2 Significant Figures Poster KA)Complete and check Practice Problems 1, 2, and 4. 

Thursday, September 20th – Complete counting and rounding practice from 1st self correcting practice test (i.e. “Excel Practice Test” Parts 1, 3, and 4). If time, complete counting and rounding practice from the other self correcting practice tests (i.e. “the blue, yellow, and red Practice Tests”). E-2 Quiz Quiz Trade. 

Friday, September 21st – E-2 Kahoot Part 1! Complete, check, and turn in counting and rounding practice from the E-2 more practice problems and E-2 even more practice problems with partner (E-02-17 mpr/E-02-13 emppr).

Tuesday, September 18th – Are you wearing appropriate lab-wear? Get your E-6 Heating and Cooling Curves Prelab checked (E-06-15 lsh). Do the E-6 Lab Day #1. Did you finish the E-4 the Bunsen Burner Lab (Discuss questions at your table and jot notes in your Workbook.)? Homework: Finish the E-3 through 5 Questions on the E-3 to 6 Practice Test (due Wed). Complete a graph of the E-6 Day #1 Lab Data using the Guidelines for Graphing (due Wed). Begin Reading Section 14-4 in the black textbook and completing the Review and Reinforcement Worksheet Questions #1-18 (14-4 R+R Wksht.)(due Thurs).

Wednesday, September 19th – Discuss the E-6 Day #1 Lab Graph and mark Analysis #1-3 on Graph. Complete a graph of the E-6 Day #2 Lab Data DIRECTLY ON TOP of the Day #1 Data using the Guidelines for Graphing and turn in graph (E-6-17 sd). Here’s how it will be graded (E-6 rubric KRe). Have you discussed the E-4 Bunsen Burner Data Tables, Questions, and Conclusion at your table and jotted notes in your Workbook? Homework: Make SURE your E-1+2 PP and PT are in your binder and FINISHED and bring Thursday! Finish Reading Section 14-4 in the black textbook and completing the Review and Reinforcement Worksheet Questions #1-18 (due Thurs).

Thursday, September 20th – Binder check 1-2 PP and PT. Have you discussed the E-4 Bunsen Burner Data Tables, Questions, and Conclusion at your table and jotted notes in your Workbook? Begin the E-6 Lab Analysis Questions 4-7, Critical Thinking Questions 1-8, and the Conclusion with partner and turn in. Check and turn in the 14-4 Review and Reinforcement Wksht. Homework: Read the E-6 Study Sheet and begin the Phase Diagram Practice Problems (E-06-17 ssh) AND continue ALL the E-6 Questions on the E-3 to 6 Practice Test (due next Mon).

Friday, September 21st – Finish, check, and turn in the E-6 Heating and Cooling Curves Lab Analysis Questions 4-7, Critical Thinking Questions 1-8, and the Conclusion with partner. Friday, September 14th – Half Day. Homecoming Parade. Finish and turn in the E-3 Analysis #1 and #2 (graph/list). Here’s how it will be graded (E-3 rubric KRfr). Begin the E-3 Lab Questions/Conclusion with partner (E-03-17 wksht/E-3 Conclusion).

Tuesday, September 4th – Pick up, go over individual E-1 Metric System Entrance Cards 1 and 2, and review E-1. Complete E-1 Self Correcting Practice Test (Look in Google classroom!). Homework: Have you read the E-1 Study Sheet (E-01-16 ssr)(E-1 Test Thurs)? Have you read the Flinn Safety Contract (Flinn SC English/Flinn SC Spanish), Standard Practices in the Laboratory (Standard Lab Practices), and the Starting with Safety video handout/Chemistry Room Map (SH and RM)(Safety Quiz Fri)?

Wednesday, September 5th – Pick up E-1 partner Activities Measuring and Converting (E-1 MC (KR)), Metric Mania (E-1 MM), Scientific Notation (E-1 SN), and Conversion Factors (E-1 CF). Complete, check, and turn in the E-1 Practice Test (E-01-17 ptr). Have time? Complete another (E-01-17 ptr/E-01-17 aptr)! Homework: Have you read the E-1 Study Sheet (E-1 Test TOMORROW!)? Have you read the Flinn Safety Contract, Standard Practices in the Laboratory, and the Starting with Safety video handout/Chemistry Room Map (Safety Quiz Fri)?

Take the E-1 and 2 Tests. Homework: READ Guidelines for Lab Report and do a Prelab for the E-3 Observations Lab in your Science Notebook (Don’t forget the prelab terms!)(GUIDELINESFORLABREPORT – 18/E-03-18 lsh/Lab Pictures). Wear closed toed shoes for Friday!!!

Friday, September 7th – Answer Questions about Prelabs. Get E-3 Prelab approved (delayed until Monday). Complete E-3 Lab Day 1. Homework: READ Guidelines for Graphing and do a Graph for the E-3 Lab in your Science Notebook (GUIDELINESFORGRAPHING – 08)(due next Tues). Wear closed toed shoes for Monday!!!

MHS Regular Chemistry … the First 10 Days!!!

Hello, students!

Here is what we are doing in Regular Chemistry the first ten days:

Monday, August 20th – TEACHER INSERVICE. NO SCHOOL. OPEN HOUSE 6:30-8 PM.

Tuesday, August 21st – New Seats! Introduce blog (https://mhskanderson.wordpress.com/category/regular-chemistry/). Discuss needed materials (a one inch ring binder, a Science Notebook with graph paper squares, a scientific calculator with an “EE” or “EXP” button, and a pen). Take the Science Growth Pretest. Pick up a Chemistry Student Information Sheet (Chemistry Student Information Sheet Fall), Flinn Safety Contract (Flinn SC English/Flinn SC Spanish), and a Measuring Worksheet and Scavenger Hunt (MW 1/CSH). Complete and turn in Chemistry Student Information Sheet. Introduce Guidelines for Measuring (GUIDELINESFORMEASURING-15). Begin Measuring Worksheet (letters a and b). Homework: READ and sign Flinn Safety Contract (handout), take it home to have a parent/guardian sign, and return ASAP (Please return signed safety contract on or before Thursday, August 30th.).

Wednesday, August 22nd – Do you have your Flinn Safety Contract? Check Measuring Worksheet letter b. Complete Chemistry Scavenger Hunt. Click here for some helpful picture pages (Lab Pictures)! Homework: Finish Measuring Worksheet (letters c and d)(due Thurs). READ, sign, and return Flinn Safety Contract (due Thurs, Aug 30th.).

Thursday, August 23rd – Do you have your Flinn Safety Contract? Check Measuring Worksheet letter cs and ds and turn in. Begin E-1 Metric Measurement Notes (basic prefixes/”move the dot”). Homework: Read E-1 Metric Measurement in Workbook for Friday (and see Workbook for textbook pages)(E-01-16 ssr). Complete E-1 Practice Problems 1-3 ALL and 4 “odd letters” (i.e. a, c, e …) for Friday. READ, sign, and return Flinn Safety Contract (due Thurs, Aug 30th.).

Wednesday, August 29th – Do you have your Flinn Safety Contract? Complete, check, and turn in Scientific Notation activity (Do the LEFT-HAND COLUMN ONLY on BOTH SIDES!)(E-1 SN). Finish E-1 Metric Measurement Notes (conversion factors). Click here for the Conversion Factor page (CF (KA)). Begin E-1 Practice Problem 8 “odd letters” (i.e. a, c, e …). Extra time? Complete the bonus section! Homework: READ, sign, and return Flinn Safety Contract (due Thurs).

Thursday, August 30th – Flinn Safety Contract due today! Complete and turn in E-1 Entrance Card 1. Finish and check E-1 Practice Problem 8 “odd letters” (i.e. a, c, e …). Extra time? Complete the bonus section! Complete, check, and turn in Conversion Factors activity (E-1 CF).
