Regular Chemistry … the 1st 10 Days …

Hello, students!

Here is what we are doing in Chemistry the first ten days:

Monday, August 21st – TEACHER INSERVICE. NO SCHOOL. OPEN HOUSE 6:30-8 PM.

Tuesday, August 22nd – New Seats! Introduce blog (http://mhs.molineschools.org/kanderso/). Discuss needed materials (a one inch ring binder, a Science Notebook with graph paper squares, a scientific calculator with an “EE” or “EXP” button, and a pen). Take the Science Growth Pretest. Pick up Chemistry Student Information Sheet (Chemistry Student Information Sheet Fall), Flinn Safety Contract, and Measuring Worksheet. Complete and turn in Chemistry Student Information Sheet. Introduce Guidelines for Measuring (GUIDELINESFORMEASURING-15). Begin Measuring Worksheet (letters a and b). Homework: READ and sign Flinn Safety Contract (handout), take it home to have a parent/guardian sign, and return ASAP (Please return signed safety contract on or before Thursday, August 31st.).

Wednesday, August 23rd – Do you have your Flinn Safety Contract? Complete Chemistry Scavenger Hunt (CSH). Check Measuring Worksheet letter bs and Chemistry Scavenger Hunt. Homework: Finish Measuring Worksheet (letters c and d)(due Thurs). READ and sign Flinn Safety Contract, take it home to have a parent/guardian sign, and return ASAP (Please return signed safety contract on or before Thursday, August 31st.).

Thursday, August 24th – Do you have your Flinn Safety Contract? Check Measuring Worksheet letter cs and ds and turn in. Begin E-1 Metric Measurement Notes (basic prefixes/”move the dot”). Homework: Read E-1 Metric Measurement in Workbook for Friday (and see Workbook for textbook pages)(E-01-16 ssr). Complete E-1 Practice Problems 1-3 ALL and 4-5 “odd letters” (i.e. a, c, e …) for Friday. READ pages ii – iii Standard Practices in the Laboratory, vii – viii Laboratory Equipment, and page ix Guidelines for Measuring in MHS Chemistry Workbook for next Thursday. READ and sign Flinn Safety Contract, take it home to have a parent/guardian sign, and return ASAP (Please return signed safety contract on or before Thursday, August 31st.).

Chemistry … last 11 days!

Hello, students!

Important note: Do you have missing work? Are you unhappy with a quiz or test score? Work on the remediation sheets to retake E-27 Atomic Structure I (e-27-15-rem), E-29 Formula Writing and Naming (e-29-15-rem), E-31 Bonding and Structure (remediation sheet in-class handout only), E-33 The Periodic Table (remediation sheet in-class handout only), and/or E-39 Acids and Bases (E-39 rem) for up to 100% EACH! E-30 Atomic Structure II (e-30-15-rem), E-32 Group Properties Quiz (E-32-15 rem), and/or E-37 Precipitation Reactions (E-37 rem) can be retaken for up to 60% each! Check the required remediation sheet when you are finished, and let me know when you are ready to retake!!!

Important note: Want to start reviewing for the final? Reread your Workbook, notes, and all returned papers and make sure you have thoughtfully completed BOTH Quarter Review Sheets (3rd Q RS/4th Q RS)!!! The final counts as 15%!!!

The COMPREHENSIVE Exit Exam will be Friday, May 26th!!! Please complete pages 151-154 of the 4th Quarter Review for Wednesday, May 24th and pages 155-156 of the 4th Quarter Review for Thursday, May 25th.

Monday, May 22nd – Stamp the E-34 Rates of Reaction Prelab. Quick E-38 demo if time. Complete the E-38 LeChatlier’s Principle Demo/Questions Worksheet Reactions 3, 5, and 6. E-38 Test Thursday!!! Homework: Continue E-46 PP and make notecard for extra credit test (Schedule a time to take it as soon as you are ready!). Continue the E-38 Equilibrium PP for the extra credit test (Schedule a time to take it as soon as you are ready!).

Tuesday, May 23rd –  Do the E-34 Rates of Reaction Lab.

Wednesday, May 24th – 4th Quarter Review pages 151-154 due today!!! Complete, check, and turn in the E-38 Practice Test with partner on separate sheet (E-38-14 pt). 

Thursday, May 25th – 4th Quarter Review pages 155-156 due today!!! Take the E-38 Test!!!

Friday, May 26th –  EXIT EXAM (Covers 3rd AND 4th Quarters). You MAY use your Periodic Table!!!

Monday, May 29th – MEMORIAL DAY. NO SCHOOL.

Tuesday, May 30th –  Make a graph of the E-34 Lab Data. Begin the E-34 Question Worksheet with partner.

Wednesday, May 31st – FINAL EXAM PERIOD 4 Grade 12. The final counts as 15%. You MAY use your Periodic Table!!! Did you turn in your black textbook!? Get your E-34 Graph checked. Finish and turn in the E-34 Question Worksheet with partner.

Thursday, June 1st – FINAL EXAMS PERIODS 1, 2, and 3 Grade 12. The final counts as 15%. You MAY use your Periodic Table!!! Did you turn in your black textbook!? Check the E-34 Question Worksheet in class.

Friday, June 2nd –  LAST DAY for makeup tests and makeup work!!! Take E-46 or E-38 EC Tests!?

Monday, June 5th –  FINAL EXAMS PERIODS 1, 2, and 3 Grades 9-11. The final counts as 15%. You MAY use your Periodic Table!!! Did you turn in your black textbook!?

Tuesday, May 9th –  Complete the E-45 Practice Test with partner and turn in (E-45-12 pt)(Test will be Wednesday – look over the Review SheetE-45-16 rs!). Homework: STUDY for the E-45 Test Wednesday!

Wednesday, May 10th – Take the E-45 Test. Discuss Exam. Homework: Review 3rd Quarter Review and begin 4th Quarter Review (See above for details!!!).

Thursday, May 11th – Begin E-44 Organic Nomenclature Notes Part I. Complete E-41 Day 3 Try #2 and submit results TODAY! Homework: Do and check Practice Problems 1+2 a-i “odd letters” from pages 126-127 (E-44-16 ss)(due Fri). Review 3rd Quarter Review and continue 4th Quarter Review (See above for details!!!).

Friday, May 12th –  Continue E-44 Notes Part II. Do and check Practice Problems 1 a-u+2 a-s “odd letters” from pages 126-127 (due Mon).  Homework: Begin E-46 Advanced Organic Nomenclature PP (E-46-16 ss) and make notecard for extra credit test. Review 3rd Quarter Review and continue 4th Quarter Review (See above for details!!!).
